Matt Damon is coming back as Jason Bourne in 2016!
"Yes, next year," Damon told E! News this weekend about taking on the role of Bourne again. "It'll be in 2016 when the movie will actually come out. [Director] Paul Greengrass is going to do another one and that's all I ever said. I just needed him to say yes."
The last time we saw Damon, 44, playing the former assassin was in "The Bourne Ultimatum" in 2007. He had just gotten his memory back and all was right in the world after there was a late-movie scare that maybe he had met his demise. But he didn't and the movie ended with uncertainty of what was next for Bourne.
Then we had "The Bourne Legacy" in 2012, with Damon replaced by Jeremy Renner, who played a different protagonist.
The books, which inspired the movies, were written by the late Robert Ludlum. A big difference between the last movie with Damon in 2007 and the book was that there was no Carlos the Jackal, Bourne's main antagonist throughout the series.
Maybe there will be a Jackal-like villain in 2016?
