Q My investment bond(债券) can be "assigned(转让的)". What does this mean?

A it means you can give some or all of your bond to someone else without incurring (带来,招惹) payment charges. And the person who receives it from you won't suffer any re-investment charges because what is now their money is already invested.

It can also be a good way of reducing any tax on cashing in your bond by transferring (assigning) it to someone in a lower tax bracket.

Q I Would like to leave some money to my grandson in my will(遗嘱). But with his lifestyle I'm worried he'd simply fritter(溶化,指败财)  it away. What can I do?

A you could include a discretionary trust (全权信托) in your will. As the name suggests, payments from the trust will be at the discretion (决定,判断) of the trustees (托管人), who can decide who receives what, how much and when.

Q What is switching? I've picked this up from reading some information about an investment I have with an insurance company.

Amost companies will allow you to switch your funds from one of their products to another. You might feel a fund is not performing very well or another fund offers greater potential. Often there is no limit to the number of switches.

Q Are there any drawbacks to taking out a life assurance policy to help with an inheritance tax problem?

A not really. Provided (假如) you are an acceptable risk to the insurer there shouldn't be any problems. When you die the policy pays out and this is used to pay any tax due.
