Moab, Utah
On the banks of the Colorado River, this area is best known for its adventure sports, including mountain biking on Moab's Slickrock Trail and kayaking(划爱斯基摩划子) through Canyonlands National Park. But the trail rides through the red rock canyons are what make this place so romantic. Pamela Lassers, a media relations director at luxury travel tour operator Abercrombie & Kent, suggests a romantic picnic dinner atop(在...的顶上) Dead Horse Point, which overlooks the Colorado River and canyons from an elevation of 2,000 feet.
Sunset Bay Cruise, San Francisco, Calif.
Many city skylines(地平线, 以天空为背景映出轮廓) are romantic, but few include a majestic(宏伟的) brick-colored bridge and mist-covered headlands. These are what make the Sunset Bay Cruise in San Francisco so idyllic(简单而美妙的). "The view of the city at dusk and the Golden Gate Bridge with the sunset behind it really defines a romantic setting," says Permenter.
Inside Passage, Alaska
Taking a ferry up the inside passage offers a sense of what early American explorers experienced. From the beaches to glaciers, to coves and islands rich with wildlife, any nature lover will be captivated(captivate:迷住, 迷惑) by his or her surroundings. While stopping off in the city of Juneau, stay at Pearson's Pond, an inn and adventure spa where couples enjoy a fireplace, waterfront hot tub and views of the forest in each suite.
Clingmans Dome, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Tenn.
At 6,643 feet, Clingmans Dome is the highest point in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, as well as the highest point in Tennessee, with views that stretch for up to 100 miles. What's more, the pine forest means that it's often damp and drizzly(下毛毛雨的), which brings out the romantic in many. "It's perfect for snuggling(偎依) while you sight-see," says Paris Permenter, publisher of romantic travel site Lovetripper.com.
Niagara Falls, N.Y.
A walk over the Rainbow Bridge still offers beautiful views of both the American and Canadian falls a half a century after Niagara became so popular with honeymooners. What's more, the ions released by the crashing water are said to have an aphrodisiac effect on passersby, according to Bigley.
Hoh Rain Forest, Wash.
With its enchanting(迷人的) moss-filled curtains, waterfalls and trails, this temperate rainforest in the Olympic Peninsula could be called the Emerald City of the Northwest, according to Teri Citterman, editor of The Best Places to Kiss in the Northwest. "This is a rugged, rocky, lush(葱翠的), enchanting forest," says Citterman.
The Berkshires, Mass.
This rural area is best known for its beautiful countryside mixed with highbrow(有高深学问或文化素养的) culture. Along with the Taconic Mountains, Western New England Marble Valleys and Berkshire Highlands, you'll find the Williamstown Theater Festival and outdoor concert venue Tanglewood, where the Boston Symphony Orchestra performs regularly in the summer. "It's an ideal combination of natural beauty and sophistication," says Florence Quinn, founder of New York travel and hospitality public relations firm Quinn & Co.
West Elk Mountains, Montrose, Colo.
Tucked away between Aspen and Telluride, the West Elk Mountains region is unique because of its mild climate, which has made it prime for growing organic fruits and vegetables as well as locally raised lamb, poultry and game.
Big Sur, Calif.
The gem of California's Highway 1, Big Sur's romance is found in its sweeping views of rocky ocean cliffs, hugged by pine and cypress(柏树) trees. Arguably the best way to view the scenery is a trek(步行,尤指长途步行越过山区) down the Overlook Trail in Julia Pfeiffer State Park.
St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands
Locals call this island Love City, says John Bigley, co-publisher of romantic travel site Lovetripper.com. With a stretch of sand called Honeymoon Beach and miles of undeveloped national parkland, the island offers plenty of hideaways(隐避处) for couples. Caneel Bay, with its seven beaches, luxury accommodations and five restaurants, is the top resort on the island.
